Place Of Origin : South East Asia

Minimum Aquarium Capacity : 8 gallons imperial / 35 litres

Compatability : Community shrimp, but could be seen as food by large fish.

Water Temperature : 62 – 79 Deg F / 17 – 26 Deg C

Water Ph, Kh ,Dh : 6.- 8 | 1 - 10 Kh | 6 - 18 Dh

Difficulty : Moderate

Feeding :  The primary diet of the Amano Shrimp is algae and natural biofilm growth present in the aquarium, they will also accept commercial shrimp food, dried leaves and various vegitables.

Sexing :The males tend to be smaller than the females in this species, the male will also have a row of distinct dots along its lower side. The female has more of a streched broken line on its lower side rather than dots.

Breeding : Amano Shrimp hatch into salt water where they go through a larval stage and then need to be brought into fresh water and if this is not done correctly the baby shrimp can be killed.

Additional Information : This is one of the most popular shrimps in the shrimp keeping hobby and is named after famous aquascaper Takeshi Amano after he used thee alot in his aquascapes to combat algae.  Being difficult to breed in captivity means that the shrimp sold in the hobby tend to be wild caught specimens.  Amano shrimp will molt in the aquarium and will then seek shelter leading many aquarists to believe it have died or been eaten as they will not be able to find it again until it appears some time later fit and well.
